3 Tips Help You Ace Your Interview Before You Walk In

Going to an interview can be a very stressful and nerve wracking experience, especially if you are not prepared and uninformed about the job or even the business you are applying for. There are a few things that I have learned in my experience that tend to help me be more prepared and less anxious when the time comes to begin the interview process with an employer. Learn how to ace your interview before you walk in!

Timing

One of the very first things I learned when it comes to interviews is that timing is everything. I typically try to show up to interviews anywhere from 10-20 minutes early. It just shows them that you have good punctuality, you are taking initiative, and that you are prepared and ready to go!

Presentation

In addition to showing up early, how you present yourself will also be a huge factor in your interview process. If you are serious about finding a job that you can turn into a career, you are going to want to dress to impress. It is always better to overdress and wear business casual than to just show up in shorts and a t-shirt. You are going to want to dress for the job you are applying for!

Research

Furthermore, in addition to timing and how you present yourself, a good tip that I learned is to do some research on the position you are applying for. But not only would I do research on the position, I would also do a little background research on the company. The more information you gather, the more prepared you will be for your interview. It is always good to do research on the company and the position because you want to make sure that you are a good fit for the role you are applying for, but you also want to make sure that the role as well as the company is a good fit for you! You’re going to want to make sure the location, job responsibilities, and work environment are all things that you can handle and are comfortable with on a daily basis. Gathering this information will not only help you decide if you believe it is a good fit, but it also gives you some knowledge about the company you will possibly be working for. So during the interview if they ask you the common questions, “What makes you feel you will be a good asset to our team?” or “What do you know about our company?” you will be well informed and prepared to answer those questions just from taking that time to gather the information before you even walked through the door.

There are many different ways to prepare for an upcoming interview. The suggestions I have listed above are just some of the guidelines I try to live by because it helps me feel more established and helps put your mind at ease when bracing yourself for the upcoming interview. If you practice these guidelines listed above I’m sure you will be more organized and proficient in the hiring process!
