Back to school and the impact on the workforce

With summer coming to a close and fall about to be in full swing, how does employers combat the back to school time? Do your employees have school age children that can’t take a school bus or need to be taken to school for one reason or another?  This is one factor that can stress out any employer and employee. Depending on how you or your employees approach this topic can be tricky. Are there laws protecting these types of situations?  As students head back to school, the workforce experiences a shift as parents juggle routines, remote learning support, and flexible work arrangements.

This time of year, overwhelms everyone; parent, child, employer, co-worker, etc. Those who have school age children can seem to have special considerations to those who do not. Employer’s can be “caught” in the middle of this feud too. Do you have provisions and policies in place for special considerations? One way to do this is to have PTO available and remind the parents who need to be with their children on that first day to utilize this benefit. If possible, can a flex schedule be provided, this can be good for both sides of the parent/non-parent coin.

Allowing for a flexible schedule during special times can be rewarding for all employee and have the potential to have great production for the organization.
